Karl Lagerfeld and Leonardo meet at the Pinacothèque

The art gallery  Pinacothèque de Paris  has struck a double blow for culture by offering two exceptional exhibitions; a look at the stunning photography of Karl Lagerfeld and a comprehensive overview of the creative genius of Leonardo da Vinci. We at the Hotel Jacques de Molay have been bowled over by both, and we think you will be, too!

Il Genio; a look into the amazing mind of Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was, of course, the original Renaissance Man; someone whose restless and incredibly fertile creative mind was capable of questing in every direction. Artist, inventor, engineer, architect and more; and in all fields ahead of his time. By bringing together a major part of the Codex Atlanticus, the compilation of the drawings and notes in which Leonardo recorded his thoughts, the new exhibition at the Pinacothèque de Paris gives some idea of the extent and depth of his genius. In this accessible and fascinating look at the work of the 15th century giant of the Italian Renaissance, you’ll see the invention of the catapult slingshot, decrypt concepts for perpetual motion devices, be intrigued by ideas still not fully understood, and discover how this astonishing man influenced the history of France. By the time you leave the exhibition, you'll want to discover more of the secrets revealed by the Codex Atlanticus... Another fabulous memory of your stay at the Hotel Jacques de Molay!

The photo exhibition Karl Lagerfeld, A Visual Journey

A different ambience and another journey into a creative mind is provided by a second exhibition at the Pinacothèque de Paris that is just as amazing! Celebrity designer Karl Lagerfeld reveals another aspect to his creativity in A Visual Journey by sharing with us his passion for photography. The fashion stylist offers his unique perspective on landscapes, architecture, portraits and self-portraits, and moments captured from the Parisian night. Additionally, two major photo installations, The Voyage of Ulysses and Daphnis and Chloe, help to illustrate the full range of the photographic œuvre of this dynamic creator. To Lagerfeld, a picture is not just an image, but a visual object whose ultimate impact depends on the medium in which it is presented, and so the exhibition offers a variety of visual media, including digital prints, screen prints, resinotypes, daguerreotypes and more. A very personal photo exhibition whose earliest pictures date only from 1987!

Why the Pinacothèque de Paris?

One of the things we love about the art gallery  Pinacothèque de Paris  is its original approach to art history. With this tribute to Leonardo da Vinci and this scheduling of an unexpected show of Karl Lagerfeld photographs, the Pinacothèque reveals once again an ability to capture the attention of everyone with an interest in culture. It’s certainly captured ours! Here, art reveals its many facets and surprises, while remaining accessible to all. Both exhibitions also offer a wonderful way to discover the Madeleine district.
